While I’m not big on sweets anymore, if I’m going to have sweets, I want them in the morning usually. And what’s better as a sweet in the morning than a pastry? And at that… a danish? Mm… I have always had a love for danishes. Something about the mixture of soft flaky pastry dough, cream cheese, and fruit just seems like the perfect combination.
The problem with most danishes out there? Super high in calories and sugar! That’s why I decided to try my hand at making my own. And let me just tell you, these are so crazy simple to make, that they may just become a family staple!
These danishes are made in no time at all with the use of puff pastry dough. Now, I’ll be honest in saying that I think this is the first time that I’ve ever used this particular kind of dough. I was a little unsure at first but, it worked out beautifully.
I lightened these danishes up by using a reduced fat cream cheese and plenty of fresh berries. Other than that, these danishes are super simple and made with just a handful of ingredients. The best part is that you get to control the fruit that you use. Not a fan of berries? Try cherries, banana, etc.
I absolutely loved these danishes and I can’t wait to play around with other toppings and flavor combinations. I’m seeing something using chocolate in the very near future!
