Homemade biscuits are a classic comfort food that many of us grew up with. I decided to add a twist to them today with bacon, cheese, and some apple too! Nothing beats the warm, flaky goodness that comes from a fresh batch straight out of the oven. Fortunately, making biscuits from scratch is a simple process that can be enjoyed by both novice and experienced bakers alike.
These Bacon Apple Cheddar Biscuits are delicious on their own, but they can also be served with a variety of toppings. Some options include scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, or cooked veggies. Consider serving biscuits with sausage gravy or alongside breakfast foods like scrambled eggs and bacon. I turned mine into a breakfast sandwich!
With a little added bacon and cheese to an egg, this becomes a perfectly delicious breakfast biscuit sandwich. Though some hot pepper jelly would be good here too!
Whether you're making biscuits for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, these homemade treats are sure to be a hit. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can enjoy the comforting goodness of homemade biscuits anytime you want.
Bacon Apple Cheddar Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 C. Flour
- 1 Tbsp. Baking Powder
- 1 Tsp. Salt
- 1 Tsp. Black Pepper
- 1/4 C. Frozen Butter
- 1/2 C. Cooked & Crumbled Bacon
- 1/2 C. Chopped & Peeled Green Apple
- 1/2 C. Reduced Fat Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 1 Tbsp. Dried Herbs (I used half parsley and half rosemary.)
- 1 C. Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Everything Seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. and line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 C. Flour, 1 Tbsp. Baking Powder, 1 Tsp. Salt, and 1 Tsp. Black Pepper.
- Grate the 1/4 C. Frozen Butter into the bowl with the flower and stir that until the butter bits are coated in flour.
- Add in the 1/2 C. Cooked & Crumbled Bacon, 1/2 C. Chopped & Peeled Green Apple, 1/2 C. Reduced Fat Shredded Cheddar Cheese, and 1 Tbsp. Dried Herbs. Stir gently.
- Stir in the 1 C. Unsweetened Almond Milk until just combined. Do not over mix. The dough should be sticky and tacky but not overly wet. Add a touch of flour or milk to adjust the dough accordingly.
- Lightly flour a work surface and turn your dough out onto it. Lightly dust the top of it with flour and pat the dough down until it's about 1" thick. Fold it in half towards you, rotate it counter-clock wise, and roll it back out gently. Repeat this process 3-4 more times.
- Roll it back out a final time to be bout 1 1/4" thick and use a round 3" cookie cutter to cut out biscuits. NOTE: DO NOT TWIST THE COOKIE CUTTER.
- Transfer the biscuits to the prepared baking sheet and gather remaining dough to roll out and continue to cut out biscuits until it's all used up.
- Brush the top of each biscuit with some more Unsweetened Almond Milk and sprinkle some Everything Seasoning on top.
- Place the baking sheet into the oven to bake for 20-22 minutes or until the edges are starting to brown and and the biscuits have risen.
- Once done, remove from the oven and enjoy right away.
