There has been some talk, as there is every year, about a possible vacation for the family in leu of birthday and holiday. We never really took family vacations when I was younger, so I guess it's something that we will continue to strive for. Fingers crossed this year will be the one!
With all the vacation talk, my little love has mentioned on more than one occasion that she would like to go to Hawaii for 'holiday'. I'm really not sure where she got that idea or how she knows much about Hawaii to start with. Thank you Peppa Pig and Lalaloopsy!
From what I've gathered these are the few things she knows to be true of Hawaii:
1. They wear grass skirts.
2. Hula dancing is a must.
3. It's sunny.
4. They have beaches.
She's not too far off the mark.
This week for lunch I decided to pack her a Hawaiian style lunch. I don't know too much about Hawaii other than what I learned when I spent a week there on my honeymoon about... 6 years ago now.
So, to start off with I of course had to have some ham and pineapple on there. Because when I think of Hawaii... I think of hawaiian pizza. And what's on hawaiian pizza? Ham and pineapple!
Next up, I added some flare with a mix of asian steamed vegetables and some white rice with a pat of butter and sesame seeds.
Oh, by the way. Did you notice that my rolled up deli ham is pierced through? No, those aren't toothpicks! I actually used some uncooked rice noodles to cinch the rolls together and hold them in place. This way no one gets poked. And if they do... it won't hurt nearly as much.
You've got to remember, she's four... and toothpicks can be a dangerous thing at that age!
