With being made with such simple ingredients there really isn’t a whole lot here to do to lighten this bread up. The end result is a tasty braided bread that you can use just as you would any bread at all. I served mine with a sort of stew and let the bread soak up the last bits of the stew in the bowl at the end. It could also be used as part of a sandwich!

Bread Machine Challah Bread
Ingredients
- 1/4 C. + 2 Tbsp. Water
- 3 Whole Large Eggs
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. Honey
- 1 1/4 Tsp. Salt
- 1/4 C. Vegetable Oil
- 3 C. All-Purpose Flour
- 1Pkg. (or 2 Tsp.) Instant Dry Yeast
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 1 Tbsp. Water
- Pinch Salt
Instructions
- Place the 1/4 C. + 2 Tbsp. Water, 3 Whole Large Eggs, 2 1/2 Tbsp. Honey, 1 1/4 Tsp. Salt, 1/4 C. Vegetable Oil, 3 C. All-Purpose Flour, and 1Pkg. (or 2 Tsp.) Instant Dry Yeast into the base of the bread machine in the order listed.
- Set the machine to the dough cycle and let it run.
- At the end of the cycle allow the dough to rise in the machine until it has doubled. Place a baking mat or parchment paper onto a baking sheet and lightly coat it with some non-stick baking spray; set aside.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to be roughly 9x14".
- Cut it into three or four strips.
- Braid the strips together and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- Cover with a tea towel and place in a warm place to rise until doubled.
- Once risen, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and mix together the 1 Egg Yolk, 1 Tbsp. Water, and a Pinch of Salt.Brush the wash over the dough.
- Place in the oven to bake for 10-15 minutes before lightly covering with foil to keep from browning too much.
- Continue to bake for another 10-15 minutes or until done.
- Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing to enjoy!
