Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I'm getting into the holiday spirit with some festive, fun, and healthier takes on some of our favorite Christmas treats. Since we had a birthday this week, I thought it would be fitting to bake up some confetti cake mix cookies, but with holiday colors, of course!

And by birthday... I mean for my kitty-fur-baby-boy, Orion.

My four year old was pretty adamant on doing something for our kitty's first birthday. So, confetti cookies for all! Well, except for the cat, obviously. He got some new toys to play with while my daughter and I baked these cookies up...

Holiday Cheer White Sangria

This past weekend we had a little pre-holiday family get together with my dad's side of the family. After our recent loss of my grandfather to liver cancer a couple months ago, my mother and I thought it would be a great idea to get all of my cousins and our children together for a fun family sleep over to try and keep my families' spirits up this season.

While there, and amidst all the chaos of screaming kids, one of my aunts pulled me aside and gave me an unexpected gift; these wonderful wine-friendly drink coasters! What can I say? She knows me well! I was told that they better be seen being used in some of my photographs, so here you go Aunt Donna!...

Skinny Pumpkin & Cranberry Bread

With the cooler crisp fall air breezing through Texas now, I've been super inspired to do any and all things involving pumpkins lately. What better way to start your day than with a nice warm slice of pumpkin, spice, and cranberry whole wheat bread to go with your coffee or tea?

This wonderfully fall inspired bread would make the perfect addition to any breakfast plate, especially around the upcoming holidays! No one will be the wiser to the fact that this is actually a pretty healthy breakfast bread, and that's okay. Let them think they are indulging...

Spooktacular Whole Wheat Mini Pizzas

These fun little pizzas are sure to fright and de{light} your family around Halloween. My daughter had so much fun helping me in the kitchen to make these perfectly spooky mini pizzas. Of course, as with most kids, she is a pizza aficionado... so the fact that she scarfed these pizzas down surely put a smile on my face!

But, I couldn't blame her. These little pizzas are... to die for. Muahaha!

'Healthier' Mummy Dogs

My mom started this tradition several years back where we turned our hot dogs into mummy dogs around halloween. I believe our first few years doing this, we used little smokies instead of actual hot dogs, so we had about a million and one mini-mummies. They were cute... but also a little bit of a pain in the rear to make.

After we learned our lesson, we began to use regular size weenies and it was a whole lot easier of a process! Now that my daughter is older and more sentient (as my brother would say), I really enjoy sharing all the fun and festive holiday stuff that my mother used to do for my brother and I.

While it's a silly and rather minimal tradition, it's ours and we love it.

It helps too that my daughter is a hot dog fiend.

It's seriously one of the only forms of meat that she will actually eat.

Coconut Water & Mixed Berry Popsicles

It's starting to get really hot here, and I've been busy starting to come up with healthy and refreshing ways to stay cool in the summer heat as it rears it's ugly head. Never mind that I'm dying here already and we have another 10+ degrees to go until we're really in the prime of Texas summer. Ugh.

So uhm... a whole popsicle for 30ish calories? Yes, please!
