I know that this is dangerous territory since there are flaming debates out there over what makes an official 'Chicago' dog. But, this is what I've come to know and love as a 'Chicago' style dog for several years now.
Where did this all start for me? A fun little place called 'Freddy's Frozen Yogurt'! My mom and I stumbled across a Freddy's some years ago and happened to try their rendition of a traditional 'Chicago' dog - which was fantastic!
I forget how or when it happened, but not long after that I made it a mission to put together my own 'Chicago' dog. After all, how hard could a hotdog be to get right? Hotdogs are surely one of the most easy foods out there to cook up.
Of course, you do have to be mindful. There are brands of hotdogs out there full of horrible, awful, icky stuff. So when putting together my healthified version, I was sure to try and keep with the original while cutting out unneeded fat, calories, and some other junk!
These hotdogs are perfectly delicious. I've never minded the swap out of a turkey dog for a beef one.
Honestly, there isn't really much other than the hotdog and the bun to make skinny here.
Also... if you aren't a fan of spicy heat, I would stay away from the sport peppers because... yowza! There are a few in the family that prefer using pepperoncinis instead since they have many of the same flavors without quite the sting!
I'm a glutton for punishment I guess, because I use sport peppers on mine.
