White Cheddar Beer Cheese

It’s about to be America’s birthday and I figured it was time to celebrate with some beer. And cheese. To be pretty honest, I don’t think that I’ve ever had beer cheese. I’ve had wine infused cheese and cheese fondue with beer in it, but… that’s about the extent of it. Beer isn’t my personal favorite when it comes to choice of beverages.

Either way! Beer and cheese are pretty much staples of any American household. And beer cheese? Well, that’s about as American as it gets. It seems like Kentucky is the heart, soul, and birthplace of beer cheese. And this beer cheese here is a standard and traditional way to make beer cheese.

So what is beer cheese anyway? Well it’s exactly what it sounds like. Beer and cheese blended together to create a smooth, creamy, decadent cheese spread (or dip) that is sure to impress any beer or cheese lover. To lighten this beer cheese up all I did was use a light beer. Yep. That’s it. Pretty standard stuff here, like I said.

I would have used a reduced fat cheese, but I was a little scared of how it might react with the beer. That’s why I stuck with straight up cheese. And you know what? I wasn’t that upset at the numbers that I got in the nutritional break down when it came to using the full fat cheeses.

Being as the 4th of July is just around the corner, I totally paired this beer cheese with some blue corn tortilla chips, homemade white corn tortilla star chips, and some sliced red bell pepper to really get that red, white, and blue patriotic feel in there.
