Perfect Guiltless Detox Lemonade

How can I call this a 'Detox Lemonade'?

Well, I've been toying a lot with the whole detox water phenomena that has struck the Food & Drink pages of Pinterest lately. The basic gist of it is that you soak fresh fruits and herbs in water overnight and wake up to a lightly flavored water to sip on during the following day.

I believe the notion behind this, according to my mom anyway, is that by adding things to your water, the water doesn't just run through you. It has go pass through your internal filters first! This makes your body have to work a little harder, burn some spare calories, hydrate, and gives you a small boost of vitamins along the way.

Plus, you can add in fresh fruits and herbs that help with different ailments that you may have. Of course, it's not going to outright cure you... but it definitely helps you feel a little better and more cleansed!

Why I added what I did to this lemonade...

Lemons: Added to water makes a powerful detox drink; lemon juice helps to cleanse and alkalize the body.

Blueberries: Full of antioxidants, which are necessary for life and are well known to reverse and prevent heart disease and even cancer.

Rosemary: Herbalists recommend rosemary for treatment of depression, indigestion, headache, muscle aches, and even bad breath.

Habitall: This is a new sweetener that I was given to try out. Unlike some other sweeteners that I've used, this one actually looks, feels, and tastes just like sugar! No GMO's and it's made with all natural monk fruit.

Ingredients:
1/4 C. Sugar
1/2 C. Habitall (Or other sweetener of choice.)
1 C. Water
3/4-1 C. Fresh Lemon Juice
3-4 C. Cold Water
1 Lemon, Sliced
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Blueberries
3 Rosemary Sprigs

Directions:
Place the sugar, sweetener, and water into a small pot. Bring to a boil and stir on occasion until all of the sugar has dissolved.

Pour the simple syrup into a pitcher or drink dispenser.

Add in the remaining ingredients.

I like to start with 3/4 c. lemon juice and 3 c. water, and gradually adjust according to taste. Add more lemon juice for a tart lemonade or add more water for a milder lemonade.

This is best left to sit overnight in the fridge to allow the fruit and herbs to fully incorporate into the lemonade.

Serve over a glass of ice and enjoy!
