Nice Krispies Treats

So… I’m trying my damndest to be a well balanced mom. Right? I mean… aren’t we all? I think my daughter was maybe 6 years old before she ever had her first bite of McDonalds. She still hasn’t ever tried anything from Chef Boyardee. And Vienna Sausages? NEVER. And these are all things that I grew up on. Another classic childhood favorite? Rice Krispies Treats!

I’ve been wanting to make a better-for-you version of the staple treats for YEAAAARS now. Crispy rice treats are easy to make. Quick to set up. And almost every kid loves them. So when I got my hands on some house-made marshmallows this week, I knew THIS had to happen.

These treats, of course, started out with those house-made marshmallows. I also grabbed up some brown rice crispy cereal and a mixed grain ‘puff’ cereal. Any sort of puffed wheat or grain cereal will work with these bars. Puffed quinoa would has been my first choice, buuut it’s pretty hard to come by.

The mixture cereal gave me plenty of variety among the bars. The thing that I like about these Nice Krispies Treats the most was that they are not overly sweet. Well, that and they are ridiculously easy to make. I’m seriously considering letting my daughter make the next batch all on her own. …Maybe with just a watchful eye.

Either way, these Nice Krispies Treats are something you and your kids will love withOUT all the guilt that can come along with most other ‘krispy treats’.
