Fig, Chia & Flax Granola Cereal

While it's still pretty warm here in Texas, I'm trying to start sneaking in fall flavors where I can and as I can without burning myself up with the oven or stove too much. This granola cereal is the perfect end to the summer and beginning transfer into fall; one of my most favorite seasons! The warm spice of cinnamon, pecan, and fig warm the tastebuds while the crisp of the granola and cool milk keep me grounded into the last few days of summer.

A moment of honesty? Before today, the only fig that I ever had was in the form of a jelly or within that familiar sandwich cookie that we all know and love. I had full intentions of using fresh fig here, unfortunately my local grocer was all out - so I had to go with dried figs.

I'm sort of glad that I did go with the dried one. They remind me very much of what I've had in the past while also being new and de{light}ful. If I had to put a more familiar taste to it, I'd say it's  pretty similar to a very large raisin!

I was a little hesitant and scared at first of trying them, but I'm so very glad that I did. Figs are full of beneficial nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, and iron. They're also plentiful with fiber.

This lovely little breakfast bowl will keep you full and satisfied to power through your morning with no problem! This could also easily be turned into more of a 'snack' portion by way of simply halving the recipe.

I decided not to include milk in the nutrient count below because we all use a different milk and I didn't want to stick anyone with numbers for a milk that they don't enjoy or use. So please, take that into account and adjust accordingly.
