Air Fryer Grilled Cheese

After the rush that was last week, I've kept it pretty simple this week. And nothing is more simple than a grilled cheese. This Air Fryer Grilled Cheese takes it a step further, leaving you making the famous American sandwich hands free in the air fryer. The best part is that you get a perfectly crisp toast on the outside and an ooey-gooey melted cheese on the inside. You truly can’t go wrong here.

There isn’t a whole lot here to healthify or make better-for-you while also keeping with the classic. I started this sandwich off with Texas toast, because there’s no other way to have the sandwich if you’re aiming for traditional. But, you could definitely swap the bread out for something whole wheat or sprouted grain. Today though? I want CLASSIC.

I also kept with American cheese because I love the gooey melt that you get with it and that’s always what I think of when I envision the perfect grilled cheese. I did go with a reduced fat version of it though, so I saved some calories there. Once again, you can go with whatever cheese you want here. The last thing I did was a trick I learned some years back, and that’s to use mayo in place of butter on the bread. Why, you ask? It’s simple!

Mayo is spreadable and is also a fat. It gives you added flavor and the same result as butter would give except for it doesn’t tear your bread up. You’re going to have to trust me here - you won’t realize the mayo was used because it all cooks away into a crispy toasty crust.
