Stop! Put the packet of taco seasoning down! I mean it! I don’t know about you, but Taco Tuesday is a REAL thing in my house. We have tacos just about every Tuesday. It’s sort of a thing now and my daughter won’t let me give it up. Not that I would anyway. Tacos are life.
Making my own taco seasoning is one of the very first things I began doing when I started cooking. My mom thought I was nuts. Why in the world would you make your own? But I post the question… Why in the world would you not make your own?
Those small packets at the store are full of sodium, mystery ingredients, wasted calories, and who knows what else. Not to mention they cost you an easy $.50-$2 per packet, for one meal. You can buy spices at the dollar store for $.50 each, and even cheaper at bulk stores. Spend $3 and have enough spices to season dozens of more cost efficient, flavorful and healthier meals!
The seasoning recipe is easy to double, triple, quadruple! It’s full of great flavor and minimal salt. Unlike most of the pre-packaged taco seasonings out there which tend to be laced with no only sodium, but lots of other baddies and unneeded things too.
I always have this taco seasoning on hand. I’ll quadruple the recipe and store in my spice rack to have ready to go on Tuesday. About 1 Tbsp. per pound of ground beef is about what I tend to use for my taco meat.
